Guide to Throwing the Coins and Deriving the Hexagram

Method: Throw three pennies (or other coins) and record the outcome as shown in the chart above. Do this six times and draw the hexagram from the bottom line to the top. To locate the hexagram, find the lower and upper trigrams on the chart below, then go across the given row and down the column to find its number.
